The Vintage Times – is a local cable television program, which features discussions with experts on topics of interest to senior citizens. Videotape copies are available for loan at public libraries in Downers Grove and Darien, as well as the township office. Learn more about the Vintage Times.

Information and Referral – questions are answered regarding services for senior citizens in our area. Help is offered in the office, by appointment, with programs such as the Circuit Breaker, Illinois Cares Rx and the Real Estate Tax Deferral Program. Durable Power of Attorney for Healthcare – enables you to designate a trusted person as an agent to make health care decisions on your behalf if you become incapacitated. You may give this person the authority to initiate or terminate specific medical procedures and life support systems.
Living Will – allows you to describe the medical care you wish to receive if your medical condition becomes irreversible. It is different from a Durable Power of Attorney because an agent has not been assigned to speak on your behalf.
Five Wishes – this is a detailed document describing choices in the type of care and treatment you wish to receive in case of serious illness. It deals with personal, emotional, medical and spiritual needs. Next Steps is a companion guide on the coping with serious illness. It has tips on talking with loved ones, talking with doctors, how to behave at the bedside and more. Five Wishes can be used instead of a living will or durable power of attorney. Long Distance Support Services – family caregivers can locate support services for persons who live in another town or state. Eldercare Locator is a nationwide directory assistance program which provides name and phone numbers of public and not-for-profit agencies who provide local referrals. National Council on Aging – are you missing out on benefits? The National Council on Aging has a website which identifies benefits for older persons provided by federal, state and private programs, including the Medicare Prescription Drug Part “D” Coverage – www.benefitscheckup.org.

A Guide to Caregiving – is published by AARP on www.aarp.org/families/caregiving.
A Family Caregiver Resource Center – provides information for caregivers of older persons. Call DuPage County Senior Citizens Services (800) 942-9412, for more information.
Case Management – assists individuals and their families to locate the most appropriate and cost effective resources. Call DuPage County Senior Services at (800) 942-9412.
Private Geriatric Care Managers – provide guidance, coordinate resources, and help in finding appropriate care such as in-home assistance, rehabilitation services, financial management, and assisted living. A list is available at the township office, please call (630) 719-6670.
The Older Adult Institute of the College of DuPage – offers mature adults an opportunity to engage in intellectual discovery through lifelong learning, for more information call (630) 942-2700.
Passport Services – The Downers Grove Township Supervisor’s Office takes applications Monday – Friday, from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. Passport photos are also available at the Supervisor’s Office. Passport requirements: proof of citizenship, proof of identity and two photographs.
