The first time I spoke with Matt, it felt like talking with an old friend. He has a friendly smile, a warm laugh and some pretty interesting stories.
Matt joined the Assessor’s Department in August of this year. He followed a diverse and fascinating path before joining the Township. Prior to coming here, Matt traveled the country for five and a half years doing sales and design for a custom tooling and plating company. Matt laughed when relating the fact that during his tenure there, he traveled so much that he only went to the grocery store two times. Working for the Township allows him to spend more time at home, serve residents in the area that he grew up in and go grocery shopping.
I asked Matt to tell me something about himself that might surprise his co-workers. The story he told was something you would expect from a spy or suspense novel. “I used to work for a major tobacco company as an undercover buyer of counterfeit cigarettes. I’ve seen every inch of the U.S. and have been to places that are not on any tourist map.” He related one adventure that had me on the edge of my seat.
Now that Matt has more free time, he’s figuring out what to do with it. He’s re-acquainting himself with friends and family as well as brushing up on his guitar and bass playing skills. One day he may apply that talent by playing in a wedding cover band.
Matt, we are so glad that you have joined the Township. Your desire to serve in a community that you grew up in will benefit many. We’re proud to have you a part of our family.
Matt Oskroba, you are an important Face of Downers Grove Township. We are proud to serve with you.
