The 2nd installment in Downers Grove Township’s Senior Survival Series “Spring Cleaning” brought local residents out to get information on 2 special topics: Estate Planning and Health & Wellness. It’s never too soon to start thinking about the future and how we can prepare to get there… whether for ourselves or a loved one!

Eileen Fitzgerald, Chairman of Friends for Downers Grove Township Seniors (FFDGTS) and a local elder care attorney, spoke on advanced directives, powers of attorney for property and health, wills and trusts. The Township Supervisor’s Office has POA’s and advanced directive forms, including 5 Wishes, available and free to the public.

Additionally, a local fitness group (Be Fit) brought their energy and enthusiasm along with interactive activities to help illustrate ways to keep and stay fit. They offered up facts vs. fiction in regards to strength, posture, and flexibility with a “We CAN do it!” attitude. Many of the exercises could easily fit into an older adult’s daily routine in their own home.

Our third installment is “Janes Journey” on Thursday, May 16th from 11-1pm in our Township meeting room. This is a Lunch & Learn event and lunch is provided for FREE!
