NEWS FOR SENIOR CITIZENS AND THEIR FAMILIES
Planning Ahead Is Important for Senior Citizens and their Families
Most older people wish to remain independent for as long as possible. It is therefore important for families to consider the various types of assistance older family members may need to be able to maintain a comfortable lifestyle. It is helpful for both elders and family caregivers to learn about available services and to discuss possible lifestyle changes. In our community a variety of programs exist to help elders maintain a dignified lifestyle, while at the same time offering respite to family caregivers.
Homemaker/Home Health Aide Service
Community Care Program is a subsidized housekeeping service for seniors who have a low income and few assets. Call DuPage County Senior Services at (800) 942-9412.
In-Home Care Services
Private agencies provide in-home care services such as nursing care, physical and occupational therapy, and nutrition information. Help is provided with personal care tasks such as bathing, dressing, housekeeping, meal preparation and grocery shopping. Fees may vary. It is important to inquire how the agency operates. Ask questions such as: Is the agency licensed, certified for Medicare reimbursement or accredited? Will care continue if Medicare or other third-party payments end? Request written descriptions of the agency's services, charges and payment procedures. A listing of agencies is available from the County at (800) 942-9412 or at the Township office.
