NANCY SCHMALFELT - COMMUNITY SERVICE CASE MANAGER

My name is Nancy Schmalfelt and I'm the Community Service Case Manager for Downers Grove Township. I've been in this position for a little over a year and truly love what I do. I graduated from Lewis University in Romeoville with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice. I previously worked in International Travel Department for American Express in Chicago. I was able to travel extensively all across the world but now prefer to remain close to home with my family and friends here in Downers Grove.

The purpose of the Community Service Case Manager for Downers Grove Township is to assist in placement of low risk offenders within my jurisdiction. The Township covers Burr Ridge,Clarendon Hills, Darien, Downers Grove, Hinsdale, Westmont, and Willowbrook.

I work directly with DuPage County Probation to place, monitor and terminate clients at approximately thirty-eight sites within the area. The sites are non-for-profit organizations such as churches, farms, legions, hospitals and foundations designated to work with the offenders in establishing reconnection into their community.

When selecting a site for an individual I take into consideration their offense, age, proximity to site and their skill level or interests.

Being in this position for over a year has helped educate me to the needs and afflictions of the people living in our Township while giving me the opportunity to do something about it.

I enjoy my work even more when I feel I have helped to fulfill a positive aspect to Community Services.
