LIZ SKRODZKI - PARENT AND YOUTH EDUCATION
My name is Liz Skrodzki and my title at the Township is Parent and Child Educator. My primary role is that of Life Skills teacher for fifth through eight graders in fourteen Township Middle Schools. I’m entering my ninth year in that capacity. I love the Life Skills curriculum for many reasons. It has been serving families for twenty-five years and has evolved in numerous ways. Schools can choose topics that are relevant to their school populations and concerns. The program has remained flexible and innovative, while remaining true to the mission of serving youth and adults.
I have enjoyed several careers including Director of Public Relations and Marketing for the Goodman Theatre, orchestrating their first subscription drive and year marketing for A Christmas Carol. I’ve also directed children’s theatre.
As a veteran teacher of thirty some years I have developed and taught educational programming at all levels. I loved the “By-Gym-Mini” class for mom or dad and toddler. At the other end of the spectrum, I was honored to facilitate a workshop for grandparents and their role in positive youth development. As a teacher I directed a Learning/Resource Center and even taught Computer classes. But parents and middle school students have occupied most of my time.
I also assist in the Parent Universities and write for The Parent Line. Our top priority for the parenting program is close collaboration and creative ventures among schools and community members. Outside of the Township, I produce and present educational child and parent programs with Dr. Marianne Firlit including our most popular “Media Literacy or Media Idiocy: You Choose.” In 2007, the Archdiocese of Chicago honored us for Project WAIT (What Am I Thinking?) a decision making program for 8th graders and their parents.
I have a Masters of Arts in Teaching and have been nominated for the Golden Apple Award. I enjoy my time on the Advisory Board of Helping Girls Navigate Adolescence (HGNA). My husband Rick and I have two adult daughters.
