Get Ready for School!

A one stop shopping event of health and human services for families living on low incomes in DuPage County with children ages newborn to 18 years.

When: Wednesday, August 4, 2010 @ 11 am – 6pm
Where: DuPage County Fairgrounds – 2015 W. Manchester Road, Wheaton, IL

Parents must bring this information to the fair:

  1. Proof of Income – recent pay stubs, tax return or Public Aid card. If you cannot provide this information, you must bring cash income verification, written letter from your employer, recent bank statements or a note from a caseworker.
  2. Proof of Address in DuPage County – photo I.D., driver’s license, or State I.D., and a recent utility bill or lease.
  3. Identification for Children – birth certificated or medical record.

Let It Snow

What happens when you bring together a large group of high school students, a small contingent of school and community adults and put them at a camp for a weekend? Operation Snowball!! Recently Downers Grove North, Downers Grove South and Westmont High School had their Snowball retreats. During these events, participants and leaders alike not only had a lot of fun, they discussed sensitive issues in a setting that allowed them to form close bonds with one another; bonds that will continue long after the weekend ends. What exactly is Snowball? I’m glad you asked.

The general idea behind Snowball is that high school aged participants hear about and discuss a range of topics that are very relevant to an adolescent. These include things such as alcohol and other drug use, domestic violence, teen suicide and leading a positive and healthy life. A typical Snowball weekend consists of large group presentations, workshops and small groups. Together, these form the structure for all to take in information, learn valuable skills and talk in a safe and confidential environment.
