National Park Service National Capital Region – The National Park Service offers a lifetime entrance pass to United States citizens who are 62 years of age or older for a one-time fee of $10.00. The pass gains the holder and their immediate family members entrance into national parks, historic sites, monuments, recreation areas and national refuges, plus a 50% discount on camping and recreation fees. This pass must be applied for in person and proof of age must be presented (drivers license, birth certificate or similar document). Applications are available at the entrance of any National Park Service Site that charges a fee for entrance. The purchase process takes approximately one minute. Call (202) 619-7289.
Illinois Department of Natural Resources – Legislation has been passed which requires senior citizens to obtain hunting and fishing licenses, but a reduced fee. If you are a hunter or fisherman, make sure you inquire about the latest regulations before engaging in these activities. Call (217) 785-0970.
Illinois Senior Olympics – state games are held throughout the state during the spring and summer. Men and women age 50 and older may compete in more than 18 sports and 58 events including swimming, track and field, bowling, golf, archery, bridge, cycling, and team sports. Medals are awarded and qualified competitors are invited to go on to the National Competition, which is held in odd numbered years. There is a $30.00 registration fee, other event fees may apply.
