Senior Services – GrandFriendships

Hanna Benioff
What are GrandFriendships?
GrandFriendships are “comfortable two-way connections between children and trustworthy related or non-related seniors who live near one another.” The most time-honored examples of these connections are those between caring grandparents and grandchildren. However, in today’s fragmented society, additional GrandFriendships are much needed by both generations” according to Helene Block Fields, intergenerational specialist. The Township is beginning efforts to try and connect senior residents, children and their parents through “Grandfriendships”. We believe that through these relationships we can support the healthy emotional, social and intellectual development of children while utilizing the compassion and wisdom of our senior citizens. These Grandfriendships also benefit the senior by giving them the opportunity to be useful and emotionally and socially connected. If you are interested in getting involved or just want more information, please contact our Senior Services Coordinator, Hanna Benioff, contact information listed below.
