Improved workspace lighting saves money!

On November 10th and 11th while offices were closed, Downers Grove Township switched out 35 year old failing fluorescent fixtures to new LED panels all across the main floor. Almost 100 new LED light panels reduce eye strain on employees, and drastically reduce power consumption. Reduced power consumption leads to reduced CO2 emissions, benefiting the environment.

Supervisor Mark Thoman reports: “I’m here with a crew changing out ancient fluorescent ceiling fixtures with 3/8” thick LED panels, the future of lighting. Reducing electrical consumption by over 75% means less than a three year ROI. From then on we expect to save $6,800 in electric bills each year. Over the next 10 years our CO2 footprint is reduced by almost 490,000 pounds. Another plus, they’re virtually maintenance free.

“We started with a few quotes at $30,000. By going through a purchasing cooperative, we found a great deal, and applied for all available rebates and incentives. Our final cost, including proper disposal of almost 400 old fluorescent tube type lights, nets down to well under $15,000 for the total project.

Yes, they’re skinny!
