The Senior Citizens Advisory Committee of Downers Grove Township is looking for new members to join the team. The Committee consists of nine township residents who serve as the “eyes and ears” of our township. They are the creative force proposing programs to promote the self-sufficiency, independence and wellbeing of older residents in our township. The Committee determines whether there exist unmet needs and makes recommendations to the Town Board of Trustees regarding the implementation of new programs.
The committee has successfully developed several programs that assist senior citizens. They include a Dial-A-Ride transportation program, the Banner News newsletter, the Vintage Times cable television program, an annual car care clinic at which mechanics check cars for safety, an AARP Safe Driving class, an information and referral service, information on the township’s website, safety and crime prevention programs which include the popular “File of Life” medical information card, and community “Networking”.
