When you meet Sue for the first time, you immediately know she is someone who cares. Talking with her, you realize that she has a heart of gold, one that she shares generously with her family and friends.   As a township, we are fortunate that such a heart has been in service for thirty years, an amazing testimony of her steadfastness and dedication.

As the Office Manager in the Assessor’s Department, Sue has a variety of responsibilities. She enjoys the diversity: from doing payroll or working on special projects, she appreciates it all. She never imagined that when she started part time it would turn into something like this so many years later.

When not at the township, Sue finds meaning in a variety of activities: travel, knitting, baking, reading and spending time with her family, especially her grandkids. She is about to enter a season of being able to enjoy so much more of these activities as she prepares for retirement next year.

When asked about something that might surprise her co-workers, she said this: “ I wasn’t allowed to date until I was 16. My dad was the Justice of the Peace in this area and he didn’t want me around “hooligans that were causing shenanigans”. Ironically, when I was a teen, the township building was the local youth center; a place that I was not allowed to go. “

If guaranteed success, Sue would start her own small town café in a community in northern Wisconsin. Sue has many fond memories of this area, a place where she spent two weeks of every summer with her grandparents. The thought of having a small town café in this place that is the source of so much warmth and happiness brought tears to her eyes.

The township really values the dedication and warmth that Sue brings to us all here. Thank you for all that you do.

Sue Sheldon, you are an important Face of Downers Grove Township. We are proud to serve with you.
