Help and support for family members who care for an elderly relative is discussed on the Vintage Times, a local cable television program for senior citizens.

Caring for an elderly relative can be a satisfying experience but it can also be physically and emotionally exhausting. It is important that caregivers take care of themselves and accept help and support from others. “A support group called CAPS (Children of Aging Parents) enables persons who care for an elderly parent, spouse or friend to share their thoughts, feelings and concerns while receiving support from others. Six free sessions are offered in 2011”, according to Francine Myers & Lynne Kornecki, of the Saratoga Grove Retirement & Assisted Living community in Downers Grove.

This program will be shown on DGTV channel 6 during January 2011 on Mondays and Fridays at 10:30 am, and on Comcast channel 19 during February 2011 on Thursdays at 6 pm. The Vintage Times is also shown in Darien on channel 6 daily at 4 pm. For AT&T U-Verse customers the program airs on channel 99 on same days and time listed above.

Persons who do not subscribe to cable TV may watch The Vintage Times on their computer via the Village of Downers Grove website. Visit www.downers.us and click on the DGTV icon under the “Stay Connected” tab in column 3 of the home page. You will see a live feed of DGTV. Watch The Vintage Times on Mondays and Fridays at 10:30 am.

DVD copies will be available for loan at public libraries in Downers Grove, Darien and Westmont, as well as at the Township office.
